Anthony George Karavias of Ronkonkoma, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Saturday April 29, 2023.
Anthony was born August 13, 1940 In New York City, NY to George & Anna Karavias (Meittinis). On April 24, 1966, he married the love of his life, Marion Karavias (Soter). He was employed with Pan American Airlines from 1963 to 1991 as an aircraft mechanic. He finished his career with Delta Airlines from 1991 to 2001.
Tony was the life of the party with his vibrant personality. To quote Marion, “He was predictably unpredictable.” Their marriage began with a spin of a globe where Marion’s finger landed in the South Pacific. Their lives were spinning ever since. Weekends always began with a huge breakfast and dinner was hot and ready at 5 pm. In his retirement, Tony was the “old man” on the West Sayville doc one would ask, “How’s the fishing?” Tony loved to cook, fish, golf, watch football, write short stories, and was an avid reader. For those who loved him, Tony was referred to as the “Golden Greek” and the “Commish”
In addition to his wife Marion, Anthony is survived by his daughter Ann (William) Southard of Miller Place, NY, Son John (Dana) Karavias of Holbrook, NY along with his 3 grandsons, Jacob, Troy, and Logan Karavias. He had many nephews & nieces, George & Ala Karavias, & sons Brian & Dylan Karavias of Centerport, NY, Jason & Lilliam Karavias & Son, Ethan Karavias of Pittsburgh, PA, James & Julie Mitchel & sons, Zachery & Tyler Mitchell of Loveland, Ohio, John & Katherine Mitchell & Sons, Billy & Johnny Mitchell of Franlyn Square, NY who all adored their ‘Uncle Tony”. As well as his loving sister- in- law Mary Karavias of Pittsburgh, PA. Tony had a tremendous amount of loving friends, Especially his best friend Joseph Beckhans & his wife Nellie of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Anna Karavias, His brother Louis Karavias, His in-laws, John & Libby Soter & His brother in-law & sister-in-law Mikel & Elaine Rexford.
