Bernardo Nieves was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on August 22, 1947. His father is the Late Domingo Nieves and his mother is Esther Montalvo whom still resides in Puerto Rico. Bernardo was 1 out of 4 children. At age 11 his family moved to Arecibo, Puerto Rico, where he graduated from high school.
At the age of 20 in 1967, he came to New York and worked in various jobs. He attended community college as well as he attended Christian Missionary Church on Second Ave, lower East Side. There he met his spouse, Maria Ferrer. They married on May 27, 1972 and had 5 children. He was a loving father to his five children, Judith (Judy) Daniel, the late Danny, Damaris, Vivian, and Eric. As well as a loving grandfather to his two grandchildren, Jovan Nunez and Jazalyn Nunez. He was also the beloved brother to his only surviving sibling, Mercedes Nieves.  He had been living in Central Islip, New York since 1977 and was a good neighbor/member of the community. His last employment was Towne Bus Corp as a bus driver for 26 years.
For the past 24 years, he fellowshipped at Faith Alive Ministries. He was an avid gardener, who loved the outdoors and loved to see plants, trees, vegetables, and flowers grow. Bernardo was a great man who loved to interact with those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever in the our hearts.
