In Loving Memory: Clarise McGourty
Clarise B. McGourty, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 16th, 2023 at her home in
Holbrook, New York. She was born on December 12th, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Winifred
and William Claffey. She lived a life filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories,
leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
Clarise McGourty was a life-long teacher, who dedicated her life to her students’ success. She
taught in the Oceanside School District for nearly 25 years. She was known for kindness,
generosity, intelligence and sense of humor. Her presence brightened the lives of everyone
around her.
Throughout her journey, Clarise created lasting bonds and friendships, always ready to lend a
helping hand, a listening ear or help with math homework. She had a contagious smile that
could light up any room and a heart that overflowed with compassion. Her legacy will continue
to inspire and impact the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
In her personal life, Clarise (“Reece”) cherished her family above all else. She was a beloved
wife, a devoted parent, and a cherished daughter, sister, aunt and grandma. She is survived by
her husband Frank, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage, as well as her 2 children; Ryan
McGourty, husband of Megan of Patchogue, NY; and Julie, wife of Jeremy Eder of Garner, NC;
and 5 grandchildren Jack, Olivia, Kevin, Emma and Summer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Coleen Kotzur of Mahopac,
NY.
The loss of Clarise McGourty leaves an immense void in the lives of her family and friends, but
her spirit will forever live on in the beautiful memories they shared together.
