Danielle A. Skokan

R.N., M.S., Ph.D.

Danielle A. Skokan passed away peacefully in her home on May 31, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on September 29, 1943.

Danielle devoted her life to healing and to the care of others. A registered nurse, she went on to earn a master’s degree in health science physiology and a Ph.D. in holistic health, building a career that spanned more than five decades. Along the way she served her community through Suffolk Head Start, victim advocacy and education, home health care, and hospital nursing leadership. With her husband, Joseph, she also built and owned Master Craft Welding, a business the two grew together. She founded the Smithtown Holistic Health Practice, where she advocated the balancing of mind, body, and spirit to nurture the universal life force unique to each individual, guiding those in her care toward optimum, vibrant, and radiant health. She lived by the words of Hippocrates that inspired her work: that the natural forces within us are the true healers of disease.

Outside of her work, Danielle lived with the same vitality she encouraged in others. An avid tennis player and strong swimmer, she loved the ocean, loved to travel, and loved to dance. A true fashionista, she had a weakness for all things that sparkle, especially shoes and jewelry, and she sparkled just as brightly herself, a vivacious, spirited woman with a flair all her own. She adored her dogs, Boomer, Bear, and Moose, and was a mentor to many who were fortunate to know her. Above all, her faith anchored her life, and as she liked to say, Jesus was her “main man.”

She was predeceased by her parents, Alma and Daniel Nigro, and by her beloved husband, Joseph W. Skokan, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, to whom she was married for 30 years until his passing in 2013.

Danielle is survived by her son Ronald Jr. and his wife, Felicia; her son Daniel and his fiancée, Joanna; her daughter, Taryn, and her fiancé, Tommy; and her stepdaughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Jeremy. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Mikaila, Matthew, Addison, Hunter, Laila, Thomas, and Taylor, as well as her sister, Stephanie, and her brother, Louis, and his wife, Claire. She was also a loving aunt to one niece and four nephews.

While we mourn the loss of Danielle, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, in the stories passed down through generations, and in the countless lives she influenced with her kindness and love. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the beautiful memories and the lessons she imparted, cherishing them as her enduring gift to us all.
