Doris Marie Ryder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Doris Marie Ryder, who departed this world on July 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 3, 1941, to Ruth Pirro and Eugene Oates, Doris graced this world with her indomitable spirit and generous heart for 84 wonderful years.

Doris was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her fierce and strong-willed nature. She was a beacon of warmth and kindness, always the first to lend a helping hand. Her outgoing personality meant she knew everyone on a first-name basis, and her infectious smile would light up any room she entered.

On March 15, 1980, Doris married the love of her life, James Ryder. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter, welcoming a blended family of children: Diane Strumlauf, James E. Ryder, Michael Ryder, Gregory Hansen, Eric Hansen, and Michele Cioffero and Ronald Hansen. Doris was a devoted and loving mother who cherished her family deeply. Her legacy lives on in her 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride.

Professionally, Doris was a dedicated and accomplished internal/external expeditor at Symbol Technology, where she worked diligently until her retirement in 2000. Her commitment and work ethic were admired by all who had the pleasure of working alongside her.

Beyond her professional life, Doris's heart was firmly rooted in her community. For 22 years, she was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moriches, serving as an usher and deacon. Her contributions to the church's food pantry and her beautiful handmade quilts, auctioned off at various fundraisers, showcased her generosity and talent. Doris was an avid quilter who lovingly crafted quilts for her entire family. Her artistic talents extended to knitting and needlepoint, and she found great joy in playing bridge and billiards.

Doris's life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. She spent her time between New York and Florida, always enjoying the company of her loved ones. Her strength, kindness, and vibrant spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In honor of Doris's life, the family requests that donations be made to The Presbyterian Church of the Moriches-food pantry in lieu of flowers. Please note in the donation “for Pantry”( https://www.pcusacm.org/page/give )This gesture will continue her legacy of giving and compassion.

Doris Marie Ryder will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love and admiration. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
