In Loving Memory of Earl Frederick Phillips Jr.
April 14th 1942 – June 3rd 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Earl Frederick Phillips Jr., who departed this life on June 3rd, 2025, at the age of 83 – the cornerstone of our family. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home with his devoted wife of 62 years, Joan, after enjoying a final beverage and meaningful conversation with his son, Earl III.
Born on April 14th, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, to Earl Sr & Catherine, Earl was the youngest son joining his 3 sisters and brother in life. He married the love of his life, Joan, in 1962, and had pledged his love at the age of 16. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, loyalty, and unwavering values.
Never backing down from a challenge, Earl overcame many obstacles in his life. He put himself back in school to obtain his GED while working construction as a young man. He found a passion and opportunity to work for New York State as a nurse’s assistant caring for patients. While working for the state, he became a licensed electrician and would climb ladders to become a maintenance supervisor.
He dedicated his life to the fire service, serving as Fire Chief and Commissioner at the Central Islip Fire Department, creating many lifelong relationships and memories. He truly enjoyed his time with his friends and family at the fire department by attending tournaments and yearly vacations together. He told stories of these treasured moments to his son and grandchildren often. Of all his accomplishments in life, Earl was most proud of his only child, Earl III. Their bond was unbreakable, and he often spoke with great pride about the man his son had become.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan; his beloved son, Earl III (Dina); his grandchildren, Brianna (Shelby), Justin (Tobey), Nicole, and Vincent; and his great-granddaughter, due in November 2025.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 2:00 - 6:00 pm at Moloney’s Hauppauge Funeral Home, 840-Wheeler Rd, Hauppauge, NY 11788.
Family and friends are welcome to attend and share stories of the man who was the pillar of our family.
