With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Edward “Eddie” J. Postel Jr., who passed away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born on April 28, 1947, in Queens, New York, Eddie lived a life defined by service, dedication, and unwavering commitment to his family, his country, and his community. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, a chapter of his life that reflected the patriotism and sense of duty he carried throughout his lifetime.

Following his military service, Eddie enjoyed a successful career with Verizon, where he served as a manager until his retirement. He was known for his leadership, professionalism, and the respect he earned from those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

While Eddie’s professional accomplishments were significant, his greatest passion was serving others. For 52 years, he answered the call as a Volunteer Firefighter with the West Sayville Fire Department, dedicating countless hours to protecting the residents of his community. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring younger firefighters, or supporting department activities, Eddie exemplified the values of courage, selflessness, and compassion. His fellow firefighters became an extension of his family, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire generations to come.

Above all else, Eddie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He found his greatest happiness in the company of those he loved, and nothing brought him more pride than watching his family grow. His kindness, gentle nature, quiet strength, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Eddie is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann; his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Liz; and his cherished granddaughter, Katie, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, Laura and her husband, Michael; Debra and her husband, Tony; and Sandra and her husband, Carl. He was a proud great-uncle to Ryan, Hunter, and Aidan, and Mikaela and Haylee, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

He was predeceased by his father, Edward J. Postel Sr.; his mother, Marion Postel; his beloved brother, Lawrence “Larry” Postel; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Postel.

Eddie will be remembered not only for the many years he dedicated to serving others, but also for the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His life was one of honor, humility, generosity, and quiet strength. The example he set through his service, integrity, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Though he will be deeply missed, Eddie’s legacy will continue in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the community he faithfully served. May he rest in eternal peace.
