Frances H. Langella

d. December 9, 2025

Frances H. Langella was born to James Piscetelli and Grace Haughwout on August 20, 1930 in Roslyn, NY. When Frances was about 3 years old, her mother passed away from tuberculosis, and as a result, she was adopted by her loving grandparents Charles and Charlotte Haughwout, and she continued to live in Roslyn, a town she absolutely loved.

When she was 16 years old, she found employment with the Long Island Lighting Company, LILCO, in Roslyn, in the Mapping Department. It was at LILCO that she met Dominick W. Langella, an electrical engineer. Being that Dominick was 7 years older than Frances, he told her that he would date her "when she grew up", and sometime later, he did! Dating led to love, which led to their marriage on June 4, 1954 in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Roslyn.

In early 1955, their marriage was blessed with the arrival of the first of 4 children, Antoinette. Later that year, Dad, Mom, and Antoinette moved into the house that Dominick built in Dix Hills, NY, the house that they dreamed they would have for their family. Their 2nd child, Dominick was born in 1958, followed by Tina Marie in 1959, and Dominique in 1962.

Frances loved being home with her children, raising and caring for them, and it brought her great joy. Since Frances didn't drive, her friends and neighbors would run errands for her, knowing that Frances always had the coffee pot full and ready to serve them when they returned. At some point thereafter, Frances started making clothing alterations for neighbors, which also added to the festive spirit of their home.

Monday to Friday, 5 p.m. signaled a halt to playtime and everything else as it was the time for the family to get the house ready for dad's arrival home from work, at 5:30 p.m. sharp. The cyclone of cleaning activity ended when dad was in the driveway and he was greeted by his wife at the front door in a fashionable dress, 4 inch heels, and freshly done makeup and lipstick. Of course, dinner was on the table and waiting.

Over the next few years, mom and dad contended with the normal challenges and changes their children experienced as young adults. The one thing that never changed was the love Frances showered on her children, something that continued throughout her life and theirs.

In 1984, Dominick retired after 30+ years of perfect attendance at LILCO. Sadly, 6 months later, in 1985, he passed away after suffering a stroke. Friends and family worried about how Frances would carry on, since she was such a devoted wife to her husband. Their concerns were unnecessary, as she was able to make a new life for herself. She never wanted to be a burden to her children, and she was determined to live a very full and active life.

Frances loved music and loved going to places where music was playing and good food was being served, including going out to the end of Long Island, in Montauk. She started traveling with friends in the United States, going down south, out west, to Europe, as well as several trips to Hawaii. She found part-time employment at the South Huntington Water District until she retired.

One memorable event that Frances tried to have every year was a family picnic at her home. All in the Langella clan were invited, as well as her friends, and a great time was had by all.

In 1997, Frances sold her home in Dix Hills and purchased a condominium in Holbrook, NY, further east on Long Island. While her address had changed, the good times for family and friends did not; she continued to host numerous parties and celebrations in her new home.

Frances also loved architecture, art, going to museums, and the history of Long Island, the place she loved immensely. She loved sharing these passions with her grandchildren and they greatly loved when their grandma would teach them new things they never knew. She was also a virtual expert on the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and all the buildings he designed.

When in her late 80's, her ability to drive was no longer possible. This did not stop her from going places. Uber found its way on her phone, and she continued to go wherever she wanted to go. Her free spirit was not curtailed.

In 2022, at the age of 92, Frances' health no longer allowed for her to live on her own. Her daughter Dominique, and her husband Peter, opened their home in East Setauket, NY to her, giving her the entire downstairs portion of the house.

There was one thing that Frances made sure to do each and every day: drink plenty of milk. There was always at least a gallon or two in the refrigerator, and if her supply started to go down, she made sure that someone picked up another gallon when they went out. This practice seemed to pay off each time she would experience a fall. The attending doctors at whatever medical facility she went to were amazed that she had not broken or fractured a single bone ever.

Over the past few months, her health continued to decline, culminating in her passing away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

How will Frances be remembered? As a woman who loved her family, her friends, and who loved living each day to the full. She was a genuinely happy person and her joy was infectious. She will be missed and never forgotten; she will remain in our hearts forever.

Frances is survived by her Daughter Antoinette, and her husband George, son Dominick and his wife Cori, daughter Tina and her husband Kenny, daughter Dominique and her husband Peter, Grandchildren William, David, Vicki, Blake, Brandi, Jennifer, Samantha, Marcus and Dylan, and Great Grandchild Leon. Not to be forgotten is another grandson Theodore, who predeceased her. The arrival of another Great grandchild is anticipated in March - a girl, Ari, who will have to learn about her Great Grandma from her mother Vicki.
