George F. Fox

George Fox, a long-time resident of Holbrook, New York passed away on July 9, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on December 18, 1946 to George and Helen Fox. He was a graduate of Hicksville High School and later, Ohio State University. At Ohio, he was a member of both the lacrosse and football teams. As a member of the football team he was coached by Woody Hayes and played in the Rose Bowl.
After graduation from Ohio State, he first worked as a microbacteriology technologist at Plainview Health Center. George then obtained a master’s degree in education and worked at Rocky Point Junior High School until he retired in 2002.
George also mentored, served as “team psychologist” and coached lacrosse at Rocky Point, East Islip, Bethpage, Half Hollow Hills West, Half Hollow Hills East high schools and Suffolk Community College. Also, he was instrumental in the formation and directorship of New York Empire State Games Long Island Lacrosse. Over the years, George was involved with Sachem Youth Soccer, SYAG, CYO basketball, Sachem Touchdown Club, Sachem Lacrosse Club. L.I. Lacrosse Foundation PAL, Suffolk County Football Foundation and U-19 Jr. World Lacrosse. He was also awarded 1990 Suffolk County Lacrosse Man of the Year and 1995 Nassau County NCLCA Man of the Year.
George is survived by his wife Robin and his sons Michael (Vicky) and Andrew (Tiffany). A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Moloney Funeral Home in Holbrook from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
