Born on October 2, 1949, in Brookline, Massachusetts, to parents Albert Rush and Mary Rush (née Atkinson), George led a fulfilling life marked by dedication, service, and love.
George served his country with pride as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve Forces and later attended Dowling College, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He enjoyed a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant, opening his own firm, GR Consulting, until his retirement.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, George’s contagious positive energy, fearless attitude and adventurous spirit led to a life of exciting experiences. From jumping out of planes in his younger years to becoming an avid Roblox Supergolf enthusiast, where he left his mark on the international leaderboard, George was always full of fun surprises.
He was a football fan who loved attending games with friends and family and a fisherman who enjoyed fishing trips with his brother. He was always up for a visit to Atlantic City or Las Vegas, and while many would say he was incredibly lucky on the casino floors, George would have argued that he was the luckiest in family and friends.
Known for his loving personality and making everyone immediately feel like one of his “pals,” George will be remembered as being generous, kind-hearted, and sparking joy in those whose lives he touched.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Cheryl; daughters, Tara and Amanda; son-in-law, Barrett; grandchildren, Gracie and Tyler; sister, Della; and brother, Michael. His brother Danny is pre-deceased. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Moloney's Lake Funeral Home in Lake Ronkonkoma on Sunday, April 14, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Mass service to celebrate George's life will take place at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Lake Ronkonkoma on Monday, April 15, at 9:45 am. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
