Gerald Paul Pisapia, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on July 20 2025. Jerry, as he was known to his family and friends, is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Arlene; his son Jed Pisapia and his wife Katie, and their children John and Charlie; his daughter Eve Al-Rashid and her husband Nawaf, and their daughter Loulouwa; as well as his nephew Peter Erik Pisapia, his wife Cecylia, and their son Nathan.
Jerry found a lifelong partner in his wife Arlene over half a century ago and their love never wavered. His last moments were spent in her presence, holding her hand as he so often did through the years.
Jerry cherished his grandchildren, teaching them how to play chess and building them swingsets. A life-long practitioner of yoga, he shared this love with his grandchildren, patiently and lovingly guiding them into movements that he himself performed every morning. He loved animals, specifically the three Labradors he and Arlene adoringly raised together, and took every opportunity to extol the virtues of his beloved dogs and share the heartbreak of losing them.
Jerry was born in Brooklyn, NY to Peter and Providence Pisapia on June 9, 1945. He attended Chaminade and graduated from St. John’s University where he was a member of Alpha Phi Delta. Jerry was a lifelong educator devoting his life to working with special needs children and later as a science teacher and administrator. He often recalled the school wide outdoor program he ran teaching kids about science and launching rockets. He loved to remember the professional microscope he pushed the school to procure and how students from across the school would spend their recess finding things and bringing them to his science lab, sparking a lifelong interest in science.
Jerry was an active member in his community, a devoted member of the Parish of the Holy Cross congregation.
Jerry was a loving, patient, and kind man. He will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for his kindness, warmth, and the quiet strength he brought to every aspect of his life. He was a consummate gentleman who never stopped learning. He was a champion archer, competitive shooter, award winning photographer and guitar player. He will be deeply missed.
