Gerard J. Hannon (Jerry) of Bohemia, NY passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021, having just celebrated his 91st birthday in April. He was the loving husband of the late Sophie Hannon. Jerry is survived by his children Frances McCall (husband John), Cathy Gaffney (husband Tim), and Gerard Hannon. Additionally, he will be greatly missed by his seven grandchildren: Brian, Jerry (wife Lindsay, and 4 children), Courtney (husband Freeman), Ashley (and 2 children), Kelsey, Sabrina and Morgan.
Jerry has now joined his parents Joseph & Margaret Hannon, and siblings, eldest brother Joe, twin brother Mickey and youngest sister Millie who have all passed before him.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War before working for British Airways out of JFK Airport. After 30 years he retired and used his time volunteering for various organizations that held a special place in his heart, such as Grumman Care Cats, St John’s Parish Outreach and AmVets Post 48 of Ronkonkoma.
Being a man of great faith, Jerry was a devout parishioner of St. John Nepomucene’s Church in Bohemia for over 40 years. He attended mass daily, served as an usher at the Sunday 9am masses, was active in the Parish Outreach and a founding member of the Sandwich Society which prepared food for those in need. He was also a Knight of the Fourth Degree for Sunrise Council 6607 and recognized for his dedication as Knight of the Year in 2010.
He was a proud Irishman, a die-hard Yankee fan and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He could never say no to his grandkids, ice cream, jellybeans, and beer. Jerry has been described as a true gentleman, nothing short of loving, generous, and hard-working, who always had a smile to share with everyone. His presence will be forever in our hearts.
