It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerard Anthony McDonough, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on February 21, 2026, at the age of 90. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Gerard dedicated much of his life to serving others, working proudly as a fireman for the New York Fire Department in Harlem and Queens. He was also a veteran, having served in the United States Army and Coast Guard Reserve. Gerard was a man of great faith, a devout Roman Catholic, and a cherished parishioner at St. Marks Church.
Gerard is survived by his three loving sons, Gerard, Lawrence, and Bryan McDonough; his dear granddaughter, Samantha Ann McDonough; and his beloved cat, Sam. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary McDonough, and his brothers Joseph, Larry, Robert, and Michael.
Gerard was not only known for his dedication to public service but also for his passion for life. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and was an avid New York Jets fan. Additionally, he was a friend of Bill's.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the NYFF Burn Center to honor Gerard's legacy and support those in need.
Gerard Anthony McDonough will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him in return.
