Irma F. Wade

d. Aug 16, 2026

Medford, NY

In loving memory, Irma Frances Wade. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend, Daughter, Sister. 1935-2026 (91)

Irma was born May 1, 1935 in Hempstead NY, the youngest daughter of Irma and Willard Jones. A proud lifelong resident of Long Island, she passed away peacefully at home on August 16th, while surrounded by love and care from her family. She graduated Hempstead HS followed by secretarial studies on scholarship at Grace Institute. Irma worked many different jobs in the private sector over her lifetime, including Royal Globe and Gerard Insurance Companies, (while at Gerard she was set up on a blind date and met her future husband of 26 years), Roberts Press, Suffolk Organ Repair, to name a few, all while volunteering in her children's school/extracurricular activities and maintaining her home. She ultimately ended up in the Patchogue Medford School District and retired at 70 after working 20 years at the High School.

Her proudest achievements remain her family. She loved them fiercely, as any good mama bear would. She is survived by her 4 children, Deanna Wade, Rory (Susan) Wade, Jeffrey (Laura) Wade and Terri (Tom) Sweeney, along with her 3 grandchildren Noah, Kelly and Matthew. Her grands were her pride and joy; carrying their photos around and seizing every opportunity to share with others. She was an avid square and round dancer and traveled to multiple conventions with her Square Dance Club. Irma enjoyed traveling and cruising with Deanna and the family. She spent decades vacationing in the Poconos, but most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren there. She often visited Rhode Island and the Catskills where two of her children resided. She loved reading, doing puzzles on her Kindle, staying connected with her girlfriends, going out to eat, attending local shows, plays, concerts and games, especially if a family member was involved (always their biggest fan). During retirement she became more involved in politics, loved her country and supported causes she was passionate about, particularly our veterans. Irma was the life of the party. She had a brightness that followed her and a vivacious laugh that became her calling card. She always had her 45's playing on the stereo; she loved Perry Como and Kenny Rogers to Pentatonix and more recently, the Edwards Twins were a favorite; whether live or on DVD, she loved their performances and attended many shows.

Irma was fiercely independent, had a great sense of humor, was caring, thoughtful, loyal and generous. The past year she was confronted with multiple health adversities but faced them with strength and grace. She left a lasting mark on all who knew her. She'll be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Never one to say goodbye after a visit or phone call, she always ended it with "toodles" and/or "kisses"! So until we meet again, toodles momma! xoxo

Irma's family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them during this time.
