Isabella N. Sheil

d. March 20, 2025

Isabella N. Sheil, age 83, passed away at her home surrounded by family on March 20, 2025. Born in Scotland on July 19, 1941, to Patrick and Christina Quin. Isabel first emigrated to Canada, and then to New York, where she married her husband of over 60 years, Edward Sheil (predeceased). Isabel is survived by her four children, whom she cherished: Kathleen (Joseph) Vierling, Patrick (Vivian) Sheil, Christine (Mike) Cummings, and William (Kristin) Sheil. She was also the beloved grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, all of whom she insisted were her favorite: Joseph (Janelle) Vierling, James (Laura) Vierling, Adelaide Vierling, Nicholas (Amanda) Vierling, Nicolette (Ned) Sheil, Isobel Sheil, Kaitlyn Cummings, Courtney Cummings, Keira Isabella Cummings, Islay Isobel Sheil, Quin Sheil, Henry Sheil, and Aerin Sheil. Adored great grandmother to: Charlotte Isabella Vierling, Joseph Vierling, Lily Vierling and Aria Vierling. Isabel dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and to countless children throughout her career as a teacher. She always referred to her students as her “kids”. Whether you called her Mom, Isabel, Grandma, or Mrs. Sheil, she had an incredible ability to forge connections that made everyone feel welcome and special. Her kindness and compassion touched the lives of everyone she met. In retirement Isabel kept a busier social schedule than most of her grandchildren, attending church, bowling, traveling, and going to classes for painting, pottery, and knitting, as well as attending a never ending schedule of family events and meals. Isabel will be remembered for the way she pronounced tomato, her dislike of cold food, her fear of winged animals, and her rules for making a cup of tea, but most of all for the way she loved and was loved by her family and friends. She leaves a legacy of three generations behind who strive to be more like her each day. While it’s difficult to say goodbye, we find some comfort in knowing Isabel will be watching over us; for those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Forever in our hearts. For those who would like to make a donation, please do so to a charity of your choice in Isabel’s memory.
