Jean Cameron

d. November 23, 2024

Jean Beverly Cameron, 90, of Brookhaven, NY, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024. Jean was born on January 15, 1934, in Schenectady, NY. After graduating high school, she attended Russell Sage College. After working as a Phys ed teacher, she furthered her education by earning a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Jean pursued a rewarding career as an elementary school teacher on Long Island, NY for 40 years. Early in her teaching career, she met her husband, George Cameron, a fellow teacher. They were married for nearly 50 years until his death in January 2005.

Jean was an excellent athlete and developed a lifelong love of tennis when she first started playing as an adult. She was also an accomplished piano and organ player, playing both at church and at home. She especially enjoyed playing piano during the neighborhood parties while leading the sing-a-longs.

After retirement, Jean enjoyed 20 years living in a beautiful condo on the beach in Cape Canaveral, FL. She loved hosting many visitors over the years including children, grandchildren, and friends.

Jean’s dry sense of humor never waned. She loved chatting with everyone and gained new friends throughout all stages of her life. Those who knew her described her as fun, personable and simply a wonderful woman!

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, George Cameron, her father, Sebastian D’Agostino, her mother, Esther D’Agostino, her sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Tony Ottaviano, her brother-in-law, Bill Scrom, and her sister-in-law, Connie D’Agostino. She is survived by her sister Carolyn Scrom and her brother George D’Agostino; her children, Ann Cameron and her husband Rich Hermann, Gordon Cameron and his wife Kim, Allison Cameron, Jennifer Cameron and her husband Rob Walsh, Susan Cameron and her husband Homer Venters; and her grandchildren, Nicole Weldon, Lyn Cameron, Madison Weldon, Cameron Weldon, Bryce Walsh, Georgia Venters, Drae Venters, and Anthony Venters.

Jean will be forever missed by her family, and her many friends.
