Jean Marie Scudero

Jean passed away on Saturday, August 1 leaving two broken-hearted daughters, Lisa Gorman (Jimmy) and Dana Caputo (Keith), granddaughter Michelle Alp (Christopher), grandsons James Gorman (Brittni) and Andrew Caputo, great grandchildren and the lights of her life Giovanni Scudero, Reagan Alp, Ryan Alp, Jameson Gorman, and Aiden Alp. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Scudero, son Michael Scudero, grandson Joseph Scudero, parents Lillian and Alexander Mattson, brother Allen Mattson, sister Gloria Fitzgerald (Patrick), mother-in-law Ruby Scudero, sister-in-law Patricia Lodico, and many loved family members and friends.

Jean Marie was the third child born to Lillian and Al, growing up in Flushing New York where the siblings were the only children on both sides of their Swedish family. They grew up spoiled with many family visits including regular family drives out to Long Island in rumble seats and old-time cars back in the 1930’s and 1940’s. It was at high school that she caught the eye of Chuck, who told her he was going to marry her on their very first meeting! They married in the early 1950’s and Jean loved joining his big, loud, loving, Italian family including two young nephews Anthony and Michael who always remained special to Jean and Chuck. She worked in Manhattan until their first child Michael was born followed by Lisa and Dana. With three children under the age of five Jean and Chuck moved the family out to Deer Park/Dix Hills on Long Island. Her sister-in-law Pat and husband Julie shortly followed moving to their home only a mile away. The two raised their families together including nieces Susan, JulieAnn, and nephew Steven. The sisters-in-law were very close, doing most things together including working for Estee Lauder where Jean worked for more than twenty years. After retiring from Estee Lauder, Jean relocated to Port St Lucie Florida to help Dana and Keith raise Andrew. Her heart was always on Long Island, so she visited often and returned to live on Long Island in her early 90’s. She proudly told everyone that her great-grandchildren were her best medicine.

Jean chose to always have a smile on her face, be cheerful, and kind to those around her. She also had a great sense of humor making Chuck, her friends, family, and all of those around her laugh. After Chuck’s death Jean volunteered for years at the Hospice Thrift Store which sparked a life of giving back. Jean volunteered by reading and mentoring children, helping in the Guidance Office at Westwood High, as treasurer/secretary for the Port St Lucie Women’s Club, organized card parties for the VIPs at the Anchorage on the St Lucie, Red Hat Society, and helped with many outreach activities.

Jean’s sparkle was bright as Chuck saw on that first day he met her. Thank you for the love, laughter, and beautiful memories you brought to our lives.

Services for Jean will be held at St John the Evangelist Church, located at 25 Ocean Ave, Center Moriches, NY 11934 at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Memorial Service at Calverton National Cemetery in Wading River, immediately following church service.
