It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jimmy Alvarez Sr., 69, who passed away peacefully after a battle with Alzheimer’s/dementia on October 28, 2025.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Jimmy graduated from East New York Technical and Vocational High School in 1973. Right after graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country. After his time in the military, Jimmy worked for U.S. Customs before spending the next 25 years as a police officer with the Port Authority Police Department of New York and New Jersey. He was a first responder on September 11, 2001, during the attacks on the World Trade Center. Jimmy worked tirelessly and honorably to assist in all recovery efforts. In an unfortunate coincidence his passing falls on National first responders day.
Anyone who knew Jimmy knew that he loved to laugh and that he had a great sense of humor. He had a gift for making people smile. He made friends everywhere he went, whether it was the lotto place, the coffee shop, or anywhere else in the neighborhood. People always knew they were in for a laugh and good banter when Jimmy walked in with his calendar book and envelope stuffed with lotto numbers ready to play that day.
Jimmy was a die-hard Yankees fan his whole life. He would often times shout at the TV whenever they’d score a run or strike out the other team. It’s safe to say they lost one of their biggest fans. He also had a massive sweet tooth, which could be satisfied with a good chocolate shake or lemon meringue pie. He did love his morning cup of coffee while flipping through the newspaper, which he’d waste no time getting out of bed for. This was one of his favorite times of the day.
He leaves behind the mother of his children and best friend Carol, his daughter Briana, his three sons Dorian, Jimmy Jr., and Andrew, and his 2 month old grandson, Noah.
His humor, quirky personality, and spirit will be deeply missed but his memory will live on through his kids’ countless stories about their silly, goofy dad.
In memory of Jimmy, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s association or Tunnel to towers foundation
