John Baumgartner

d. May 29, 2025

John Baumgartner passed away at his home in Whitesboro, New York on May 29, 2025 with his wife of 19 years by his side.

John’s sense of humor will forever be remembered. He loved life, and he loved his family and friends with his whole heart. He rarely turned down a good time. He had a deep passion for all sports, with his main love being professional hockey. He spent his young childhood one block from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and later moved to Long Island with his family. He was a diehard NY Rangers, NY Yankees, and NY Giant’s fan.

John worked most of his career with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the city of New York. He was quoted as saying “If anyone thinks that working in a sewage treatment plant would not be fun, I had a blast for my 25 years”. That was John, he could find humor and fun in just about everything. John retired from the city of New York in 2006 and moved upstate to be with his new wife. He was able to enjoy almost 16 years of retirement before being diagnosed with the cancer that eventually took his life.

John is survived by his wife Wendy Baumgartner, his sister Janet Minore (Tom), his sister Carol Curran (Kevin), and his children: Lisa Luker (Jason), Patrick Baumgartner (Ryan Earl), and Jackie Monath (Corey). He was a proud grandfather of 11, Jacob, Emma, Max, Jonathan, Matthew, Sydney, Avarie, Natalie, Damon, Isla, and Ezra, and one great grandson, Oliver.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Moloney’s Lake Funeral Home, 132 Ronkonkoma Ave, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779 from 2-6pm. All are welcome to come and say goodbye to John and visit with his family.
