John Henry Schriefer

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born and raised in Ozone Park, NY, a graduate of John Adams High School, he settled in Commack in 1962 and lived in this area for the rest of his life, splitting time for many years between Commack and his beloved second home in Lake Placid, New York.
Through pure ambition, motivation, and an incredibly strong work ethic he learned his craft as a draftsman in the aerospace industry. He created his own consulting firm in the mid-1970s and eventually co-founded Schriefer Associates Ltd: a computer-aided specialty design business serving the aerospace industry for more than 30 years.
Over the years, he was a voracious reader, an avid Giants fan, a competitive pinochle player, lover of history, and classical music enthusiast. He was a witty, strong-willed German devoted to passionate discussion of current events.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, cooking old family recipes, gardening, being outdoors, digesting The New York Times, and reminiscing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Joyce, brother Henry, parents John and Sophie, and son-in-law Robert Mills.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Barbara (née Spears), brother Richard, children Janice Mills, Judy and Greg Heilbrunn, and John; stepchildren Peter and Donna Spears, Margaret and Romolo Marcucci, Kerry and James Fisher, and Jennifer Spears, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
