John V. Leone, age 73, of Newburgh, NY, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1952, John was the beloved son of the late Josephine and John Leone. He spent his early years in Brooklyn and Connecticut, and later lived in Queens, Hauppauge (Long Island), and ultimately Newburgh, NY, where he made his home for the past 19 years with his devoted partner and love of his life, Joann Patrello.
John proudly served with the NYC Department of Corrections, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he continued to give back to his community as an Assistant Branch Manager at Teachers Federal Credit Union, where his professionalism and warmth were deeply appreciated.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Jacqueline Witanowski, and her husband Edward; his devoted son, Bryan John Leone (Z), and his wife Tatiana. He was a proud grandfather to Anthony, Michael, and Vincent Witanowski, and Talia and Asher Leone, who brought immense joy to his life.
For nearly two decades, John shared a life filled with love, laughter, and quiet strength with Joann Patrello, and he was a cherished presence in the lives of her children, Catherine Rivera and her husband Christopher, and Thomas S. Patrello and his wife Taylor. He also embraced the role of grandfather to Thomas Patrello and Stephen Cook, loving them as his own.
John is also survived by his loving sister, Roseann Piazza, and her husband John; his brother, Robert Leone, and his wife Margaret; and his niece and nephews, Christina Piazza, Christopher Piazza, and Bobby Leone.
A true enthusiast of life, John enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, savoring good cigars, and rooting for the New York Mets and Jets. He immersed himself in music—the kind that stirs the soul—and was an avid fan of The Sopranos and A Bronx Tale, stories that reflected the rich culture and spirit he cherished.
John will be remembered for his steady presence, deep devotion to family, strong sense of responsibility, and the quiet kindness that touched everyone around him. His legacy lives on in all those who loved him—both by blood and by bond.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
