John James Rutowicz Jr.
“Junnie”
July 3, 1939 – May 25, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that the family of John James Rutowicz Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a United States Marine, announces his peaceful passing on May 25, 2026. Known affectionately to all who loved him as “Junnie,” he was born on July 3, 1939, grew up in Astoria, Queens, and lived a life defined by service, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to his family. As a teen Junnie participated in roller derby and roller hockey. After graduating from William Cullen Bryant High School, Junnie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps embodying the values of honor, courage, and dedication that he carried with him throughout his entire life. His service to his nation was a source of great pride, not only for himself but for all who were fortunate enough to know him. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Lance Corporal.
Above all else, Junnie was a devoted husband and father. He was the loving husband of Norma, his steadfast partner and the heart of their home. Together they built a family in Port Jefferson Station NY, rooted in love, hard work, and care. He retired from the NY Telephone Co after a long career. In his spare time he volunteered his time with the Little League Baseball League and the Boy Scouts of America. Junnie was an avid photographer, boatowner, and with his training as a truck mechanic the the Marines, Junnie was a “jack of all trades” always fixing things around the house and helping friends and neighbors.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Norma, and survived by his four children; Janine and husband Eric, Denise and husband Ivan, John and wife Heather, Michael and wife Dona, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Junnie will be remembered as a man of quiet strength and great heart — a provider, a protector, and a Marine. The void left by his passing will be felt profoundly, and the love he gave freely and the life he lived fully will remain acomfort to all who called him husband, father, and friend. Semper Fidelis, Junnie. Rest easy.
