Kathleen Carey, 84, a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Ireland, she grew up on a farm alongside her twin sister Margaret and her sisters Helene and Rose, all of whom predeceased her. Her early life was shaped by hardship, as well as the deep roots of family, land, and perseverance that stayed with her throughout her life.
In search of a better future, she made the courageous decision to leave her homeland and come to America—despite having limited formal education and no experience navigating the world independently. Through sheer determination, she built a life for herself, a testament to her strength and will.
She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Carey.
She is survived by her children, Tara and Mike, as well as her grandchildren. Mike and his wife, Chrissy, were a constant and devoted presence in her life, providing care and support throughout the years.
She shared a lifelong bond with her best friend, Susie, who predeceased her—a friendship that brought her deep companionship and meaning.
She loved animals and found simple joy in feeding the birds, a quiet reflection of her connection to nature and her upbringing. She also had a love for Irish music, and God was a constant in her life.
Life was not always easy for her, and she faced many struggles along the way. But through it all, she remained incredibly strong—strong enough to cross an ocean, to endure, and to keep going when many would not have been able to.
She will be remembered not for perfection, but for her resilience, her survival, the love she had for her family and the life she built against the odds.
Her family takes comfort in imagining her at peace, back in the Irish countryside she once called home—free and whole again, riding her horses as she did in her youth, and reunited with Bobby, Rambo, and Holly at the Rainbow Bridge.
She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
