Kathleen Christie
Kathleen Christie, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at the age of 79. She was born Kathleen Rice on April 18, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York.
Kathy was the beloved wife of the late Frederick Christie, who passed away in 2018. Kathy and Fred married in 1965 - married for 52 years. They lived for many of those years in Ronkonkoma, New York, before retiring to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2004. They welcomed family and friends to their home, where Kathy especially enjoyed hosting family visits, creating opportunities for everyone to spend time together.
Kathy dedicated her life to caring for others. Over the course of her nursing career, she worked as a nurse’s aide, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, nurse administrator, and adjunct professor of nursing. Her professional life reflected what those who knew her best will always remember: Kathy had a true servant’s heart. She found meaning in caring for others and was deeply committed to those around her.
Family was at the center of Kathy’s life. Kathy is survived by her children, Denise (Doug) Schuch and Thomas Christie; her grandchildren, Juliane Schuch, Emily (Garrett) Nicholas, Gabriella (Joe) Schicchi, and Sean Christie; and her great-grandchildren, Noelle Nicholas, Sofia Schicchi and Joey Schicchi. She is also survived by her siblings Gregory Rice, Thomas Rice, and Janet Doyle. She was preceded in death by her siblings Diane Cummings, Suzanne Romaine, and Gerard Rice.
Kathy will be remembered for her caring nature, generous spirit, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and the many people whose lives she touched.
Kathy's family is grateful for the love, care, and friendship she received throughout her life and invites all who knew her to join them in remembering and celebrating her life.
