Mahendra Singh Airen, MD

With heavy hearts, we share that Mahendra Singh Airen passed away unexpectedly on January 10th 2026 at the age of 81. Though his departure was sudden, his life was full, meaningful, and deeply rooted in love, service and quiet faith.

Born on September 7, 1944 in Indore, India, Mahendra met his beloved wife Dolly while studying at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal. Together they began their medical careers by delivering essential medical care in remote Indian villages, a testament to their shared devotion to helping others. In 1974, they immigrated to the United States with courage, humility, and a strong belief that through hard work and grace, they could build fulfilling professional and personal lives. For 52 years, Mahendra dedicated himself as a psychiatrist at Zucker Hillside Hospital, a community that he truly cherished, and he often spoke of his “work family” with deep gratitude and pride. Caring for others was his purpose, and he did so with compassion, patience and a gentle spirit.

A quiet and humble man, Mahendra spoke softly but loved deeply. He found peace near the ocean, comfort in nature, and joy in nurturing his bonsai trees – tending to them with much the same care, patience, and devotion that he offered both his family and his patients. An artist at heart, he also loved painting and photography, always seeing the beauty in the world around him.

His generosity knew no limits. He opened his home to nieces and nephews from India, supporting them as they pursued education and built new lives in the U.S., never asking for recognition, only wishing for their success and happiness.

Mahendra is survived by his devoted partner in love and life, Dolly, and his children and grandchildren. He was a proud and loving father of Monita (and her husband Anil) and Manish (and his wife Niru), and the most adoring grandfather to Priya, Preeti, Neena, and Aashi, who filled his heart with joy beyond words.

We take comfort in believing that his soul is at peace. Though we were not ready to say goodbye, we are forever grateful for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the legacy of unwavering kindness that he leaves behind. He will live in our hearts, always.
