Malcolm W. Shiels

Malcolm W. Shiels passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, with loved ones by his side. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life, love, and spirit 'Mally' shared with us. Despite great adversities in his formative years, Mal persevered to build a good life. Buoyed by the steadfast love and support of his wife, Mary, he worked tirelessly and proudly to provide every opportunity for their four children. Mal expressed his love by 'doing'-and he was always 'doing', especially at home. He was a self-taught craftsman and tackled every DIY project with the know-how of a pro. Through the years, he replaced roofs, windows, and doors. He built custom cabinetry, bedroom furniture, swing sets, and more. He put his loving touch on every square inch of a modest house to make it a special home for his family. And when his children purchased their own houses, 'Dear Old Dad' was there for all of them, swinging the hammer, showing them the ropes, and happily 'doing' it all over again. Mal's spirit shined brightest when he shared his creative gifts for art and music. As a young man, he uncovered an innate talent for drawing and designing. As a father, he tapped into those talents with childlike abandon at every opportunity-crafting shoebox dioramas, constructing Halloween costumes, working on school projects. It took everything for the little ones to keep up with Dad! In the 1960s, Mal sang and played saxophone with a band in Ireland, and in adulthood he encouraged his children to pick up instruments, too. He filled the house with music of all genres, took in concerts with his sons, and blasted tapes on long road trips to and from colleges. Today, we see the same talents and interests growing in his beautiful granddaughters. Mally will be remembered fondly for long chats at the kitchen table, hilarious jokes over a pint, and good-natured ribbings. He loved his dogs, and he loved nature. He also loved Entenmann's chocolate donuts. Boy, did he love chocolate donuts.

Prayers & formal remarks will be held at 5:00 PM.

During the celebration of life, food & beverages will be served.
