Margaret Mahoney

Margaret Mahoney, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and proud Irishwoman, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on May 6.

Born in County Mayo Ireland, Margaret carried the strength, warmth, humor, and resilience of her Irish roots throughout her life. After emigrating to New York hand in hand with her twin sister in 1957, they, along with several of their sisters worked at the Top of the Six’s restaurant in Manhattan. Margaret then went on to work at several other fast-paced restaurants in the city and later worked as a Home Health Aide for several families, a testament to her desire to be of service to others in any capacity.

Margaret was the cherished mother of her daughter Irene, who lovingly and devotedly cared for her, and her son Stephen. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Dr. Kaitlin (Chris) Ryan (Nikki), Shannon, Colin, Karli, and Charlotte, and a treasured great-grandmother to Paige, Blake, Parker, and soon-to-arrive Hudson.

She was predeceased by her beloved twin sister Cathy; her sister Agnes; her brothers Tom and Joe; and her baby sister Rosaleen, all of whom she held close in her heart throughout her life.

Deeply mourned by her sisters Martina, Josephine, Patricia and Irene as well as nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, extended family, and friends in New York and Ireland, along with her devoted cat, Misty.

Margaret will be remembered for her enduring love of family, passion for gardening, her quiet strength, and the kindness and wisdom she shared with those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.

May she rest in eternal peace.
