In Loving Memory of Marie Elmen

October 21, 1930 – December 10, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Elmen, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a source of unwavering strength to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She departed this world on December 10, 2025, but the legacy of her love, kindness, and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

Born on October 21, 1930, in Flushing, New York, Marie was the second child of Salvator and Myrtle Rizzo. She cherished her role as a daughter and was a loving sister to Charlie, Joan, and Johnny. From an early age, Marie demonstrated a strong work ethic, steadfast integrity, and a deep, abiding devotion to her family.

Marie’s artistic talents were evident throughout her life. She found great joy in creating beauty through painting and writing, gifts she generously shared with others. For many years, her family was blessed by her hand-painted Christmas window scenes—a beloved tradition she treasured. As a published author of several storybooks, Marie’s words inspired and comforted readers of all ages. During the holiday season, she delighted in making her famous chocolate candies, which she lovingly shared with family, friends, neighbors, and members of her parish.

In 1951, Marie married the love of her life, Jules Abraham Elmen Jr. Their marriage, rooted in mutual respect, shared dreams, and boundless love, spanned 60 wonderful years until Jules’ passing on February 18, 2012. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories.

As a mother, Marie was a beacon of wisdom, love, and unwavering support to her children, Glenn, Mark, and Drew Elmen. She devoted herself to raising them with compassion, instilling the values of kindness, humility, and the enduring strength of family. Her love expanded naturally to include her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply.

Marie is survived by her children: Glenn and his wife Brenda, Mark and his wife Jane, and Drew and his wife Rovelyn. She also leaves behind a treasured legacy through her 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her love and spirit with them always.

A visitation will be held at Moloney’s Bohemia Funeral Home, 1320 Lakeland Avenue, Bohemia, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. John Nepomucene R.C. Church in Bohemia, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Marie’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, art, and devotion to family will continue to inspire generations to come. A woman of deep and abiding Catholic faith, Marie lived her life guided by prayer, humility, and trust in God’s grace. Her faith was a source of strength in times of joy and sorrow alike, and it shaped the compassion and generosity she extended to everyone she met. As we mourn her passing, we take comfort in the promise of eternal life, confident that she has been welcomed into the loving arms of our Lord, reunited with her beloved husband Jules, and at peace in His heavenly kingdom.
