Mary Elizabeth Jones

Mary was born on November 15, 1938, in Albany, GA and was the youngest of nine other siblings to her mother and father Ozel Silas and Henry Grady Thomas respectively. Mary graduated from Monroe High School in 1958. Shortly following her graduation from high school, she moved to NY where she joined her beloved husband Clarence Jones Jr. of 56 years in Holy Matrimony on November 15, 1958 (Bronx, NY). To this union four children were born: Madelyne, Sandra Michelle, Lolita and Dexter.

She exemplified outstanding school service as an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) member. Mary originally began her career at Harlem Hospital in Harlem, NY. She later transitioned to Quens LI Medical Group where she worked as a medical assistant until her retirement.

Some of Mary’s most treasured memories will be of her referring to her children as her “golden children.” Many will boast about her as “the phenomenal cook.” Humorously, she had the “Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)” lol, and therefore attended all graduations, life’s major milestones and celebrations of her family and dear friends. Mary had a kind spirit, a gentle heart, and a love that made everyone around her feel seen and cared for. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will remain with us always, and her memory will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

Mary is survived by her sister (Christine) her two loving daughters, Madelyne Denise Jones, Sandra Michelle Jones (deceased), Dr. Lolita Matrice Jones, Dexter Terrell Jones (deceased); grandchildren, Shalea Mitchell, Joshua Taylor, Kirsten Jacksonn, Elisha Taylor, Mariah Jackson, Gabriel Taylor and Dr. Kherith-Brooke Taylor; great-grandchildren, Alexandra, “AJ” and Tallulah and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, all of whom shared and cherished in her celebration of life.
