Maureen Cooney

Maureen Cooney (née Grady) passed away peacefully at home in Hooksett, New Hampshire, on July 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was previously a resident of Long Island. From 2005 to 2015, she resided in West Grove, Pennsylvania, with her late husband, Bill Cooney, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

Maureen was born in Jamaica, New York, to the late Margaret (née Backer) and John Grady. She graduated from Jamaica High School and began her career in communications with the New York Telephone Company, later transitioning to Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company. After taking time away from work to raise her family, which included three sons and her younger sister, she returned to the communications field. She worked for Mid-Island Hospital and Syosset Community. An injury prompted her early retirement, allowing her to prepare for the arrival of her grandchildren. Her passion for singing was a source of joy and fulfillment, and she was an active member of three vocal groups, taking great pride in participating in the Billy Graham Choir.

Maureen's Irish heritage was not just a part of her identity; it was a significant part that she took great pride in. She cherished her roots, and when given the opportunity, she became a dual citizen of both countries she loved so much.

Maureen is remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She is survived by her three sons-Tom (Lynn), Jimmy (Yvonne), and Chuck (Justine)-as well as her brother, John (Debbie), and her eight grandchildren: Seán, Megan, Deirdre, Billy, Anna, Lena, Charlie, and Nolan. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Dolores Gallagher and Elaine Woods.

Funeral services will be held at Moloney's Lake Funeral Home,132 Lake Ronkonkoma Avenue, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on July 20th, with interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery on Monday, July 21st at 11:30 AM.
