Melanie Fern Williams: A Journey Through Life

On October 21, 1963, Melanie Fern Williams entered the world in New York City, bringing immense joy to her parents, William and Doris Williams. The high school sweethearts from Williamston, North Carolina, had migrated to NYC and married in the Bronx, where they welcomed their bubbly baby princess, Melanie Fern, their second child. From a young age, Melanie was full of life, with the sweetest temperament. She was an amazing and talented child who blossomed into an incredible woman and a dedicated mother.

Melanie attended St. John The Baptist School during some of the roughest times in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Despite the challenges around her, she remained kind, soft, and gentle to everyone she met. She was raised to be exceptional and to walk tall in her greatest and highest self, which she did to the best of her ability every day. She also attended a junior high school in Brooklyn, where she developed the mindset, "If you can picture it, you can frame it," a perspective that guided her throughout her life.

She later attended the coveted Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music, graduating in 1981. It was here that she discovered her love for rap and initially desired a career in the music business. However, the realities of the music industry led her to pivot career-wise. Melanie's first professional job was as a model, gracing the floors of many retail, designer, and beauty establishments as a promotional and fit model. The industry was at its peak in the early eighties through the nineties, and Melanie cherished the lifelong friends she made during this time.

On January 17, 1993, Melanie embraced motherhood, co-parenting with Robb Cheeks, and welcomed her son, Milan Cheeks, into the world. As a devoted mother, she ensured Milan had the best opportunities, even amidst struggles. They lived in Brooklyn, NY, for seven years before embarking on a journey together, moving from NJ to NY, finally settling in Manorville, NY, where they spent over 13 cherished years. Melanie's dedication to providing Milan with a luxurious life and the best education showcased her unwavering love and commitment.

In 2003, Melanie began her real estate career with Nestseekers International, becoming an agent for over 21 years. She successfully rented 124 homes in the Long Island area, making numerous business contacts and lifelong friends. Her hard work and determination allowed her to achieve her dream of living in California, where she spent the last few years of her life.

On May 5, 2021, Melanie joyously became a grandmother to her precious granddaughter, Aura Capri Cheeks. The bond between Melanie and Aura was profound, with Aura inheriting some of Melanie's endearing traits. Melanie's time with her granddaughter brought immense joy and fulfillment, adding another cherished chapter to her life.

Melanie was a beautiful soul, both inside and out. Her striking beauty and warm, gentle nature captivated everyone she met. Known for her mantra, "I come in love and peace," Melanie navigated life with grace and kindness. She cherished her extended family and close friends, often expressing her pride in Milan's achievements, especially his work in AI technology.

Melanie Fern Williams leaves behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories. She is survived by her son, Milan Cheeks, granddaughter, Aura Cheeks, sister, Cheryl Vernae Williams, nephew, Christian J. M. Williams, and a host of extended family members and dear friends. Her life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the profound impact one can have on others.

RIP Melanie, our sweet LaLa-Angel. You will be treasured in our hearts forevermore
