Michael Konert 1952-2026
Michael will be remembered as a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He was the second son born to Anna and Czeslaw Konert, in Ostrowik, Poland. In 1965, he and his family emigrated to Brooklyn, N.Y., in hopes of acquiring the American Dream. And that he did. If you were lucky enough to meet Mike, you most likely became instant friends. He had a knack of making you feel like he knew you his whole life. If you have a Long Island Savings Bank t-shirt in the back of your closet, you were in his inner circle. The same applied if you were bestowed a nickname. Known to some as Mike, Mikey, or Michael, he was very much known to many, later in life, as ‘Uncle Mike.’ An avid traveler, fisherman, golf aficionado (“put me down for a 5”), photographer, artist, and a fan of the NY Giants, he was not one to sit still for too long. And whether you just met or had known him for a long time, you knew that at any event, he was always the life of the party. He was ready with a joke (sometimes at your expense), always ready to lend a hand (he could fix just about anything), and always made you smile.
He had a wonderful circle of friends, too many to list by name. However, I’m sure you’ve all met at one point in time…whether at a backyard barbeque that went into the wee hours of the night, a golf outing, or an amazing vacation at Jack’s House. Some of the really lucky ones, were privileged to call him family. In 1975 he married the love of his life, Suzanne (Hynes). Evident from the many trips they took together and the beautiful pictures he took and had displayed around their home. His daughter, Lisa, took after his love of adventure and became a traveler herself. They moved the family to Long Island in 1989 and that is where they called home. Michael carried on Suzanne’s memory after her passing in March 2022.
In 2022 he also retired from Western Suffolk BOCES, as Mechanic 5. However, almost all of us knew him from his tenure at Long Island Savings Bank.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Lisa and his extended family; his sister Irena and brother-in-law, Kazimierz Kozikowski, and his brother Richard and sister-in-law Josephine Konert. His niece, Christine and her husband Sean, and their children Gab and Derek. His nephew, Slawomir and his wife Jackie, and their children Anna, Alina, and Adrina. His nephews, Christopher and Nicholas and his wife Ayanna and daughter Sophia. Michael was predeceased by his eldest brother, Kazimierz and their parents, Anna and Czeslaw.
We can all agree, we never have enough time with the ones we love. However, their memories keep them alive forever in our hearts. We love you, Uncle Mike, and you will be missed. And it’s never goodbye, it’s see you later.
