Milagros Reguero, 91, passed away peacefully on June 18th, 2025, surrounded by love. Born in Puerto Rico in 1933, she moved to New York at the age of 16, where she built a life filled with family, hard work, and care for others. It was there that she met her husband, Francisco, with whom she shared more than 50 years of marriage.
Together, they raised four children: Francisco Reguero Jr, Delia Mercado, Patricia Cuella, and Richard Reguero. Milagros was also a proud grandmother to six grandchildren—Mindy Mercado, Joseph Mercado, Robert Briceno, Kristin Briceno, Molly Reguero, and Lindsey Reguero—and two great-grandchildren, Rose Rohrer and Elias Rohrer.
She will be remembered most for the way she expressed love—most memorably through her cooking and her generosity. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where the aromas of tradition and comfort filled the air, and no one ever left hungry. Though she may not have found joy in the act of cooking itself, she found purpose in feeding others—offering warmth, comfort, and connection in every dish.
Her presence will be profoundly missed, but her legacy lives on in the strength she showed and the lives she touched. Milagros leaves behind a close-knit family who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her authenticity and the steady presence she brought into their lives.
