Nahum Joseph Smith, born September 2, 1981, passed from this world leaving behind a legacy of kindness, brilliance, and deep love. He will be remembered for his generous heart, thoughtful spirit, and the warmth he brought to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Nahum is survived by his loving wife, Michelle, and his mother, Marianna. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love and goodness he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Nahum possessed a brilliant and inquisitive mind and was deeply devoted to learning. He loved studying philosophy and Buddhism, always searching for deeper meaning and understanding in life. His gentle nature and compassionate spirit made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. He was kind and giving—often giving more of himself than most people would.
Professionally, Nahum worked at Heru, Inc., a remote company in the healthcare technology industry, where he served as Director of Data and AI. He loved his work and brought extraordinary intelligence and curiosity to everything he did. He was always learning, always exploring new ideas, and always striving to find better ways to strengthen his company and the projects he worked on. His insight, dedication, and creativity made him an undeniable asset to his colleagues and his field.
Outside of his work, Nahum found great joy in the natural world. He loved hiking, being outdoors, and taking quiet walks in the park. Some of his most treasured moments were spent kayaking and sharing time in nature with Michelle. Together they created countless beautiful memories that will be cherished forever.
Michelle and Nahum were introduced by coworkers. From their very first phone call, Michelle knew he was someone special. Within just a few weeks, she knew he was the one. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and the quiet beauty of simply being together.
Nahum shared many ideas and inspirations with those he loved. One poem he shared, by the Persian poet Rumi, reflects the spirit with which he approached life:
"Why are you asleep? The morning breeze has secrets to tell you.Don't go back to sleep."
Nahum touched many lives through his kindness, sincerity, and generosity of spirit. He will be missed every day, but the love he gave and the memories he created will remain forever.
