Our beloved husband, father, godfather, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend, Nicolas William, was born in Freeport, Bahamas, on January 25, 1935. He moved from the Bahamas to Port-de-Paix, Haiti, where his parents originated. He grew up with four other siblings: Jeannette, Cidee, Olga, and Rabelais, all of whom, including his firstborn son Dixon, preceded him in death. After his high school graduation, he left Port-de-Paix to explore the capital, Port-au-Prince, in search of a better life, creating a family of his own and building wonderful friendships. Those who knew him could testify to his dapper Don Juan look. He was always well put together and very charming, earning him the nickname "Casanova". What a respectful, wise, calm, cool, and collected individual he was! A good listener to the core. He was fond of saying, "Mwen pa ka baw potoprins, min mwen ka edew viv potoprins." He vehemently refrained from having long conversations over the phone for fear of inevitably engaging in gossiping. Many can attest to his gentle mannerisms. Twenty-two years ago, he migrated to the United States to spend the remainder of his life by looking dutifully and lovingly after some of his grandchildren and countless other children who crossed his path. On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, he peacefully transitioned in the comfort of his home. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Claudette, his children and their spouses: Scott, Florence, Hermione, Wilmercia, Edwin, Marlo, Ralph, Williamson, Davidson Pierre Canel. His many grandchildren: Hermika, Maeva, Ed- Wendell, Karl Adler, Willdween, Yolanda and Sindie and hosts of friends and extended family members. His nieces: Marie Lina, Kettelie, Eugenie, Marie Marthe, Kettie, Elcie, Eleonor, Edeline and her husband Neil, Marie Alice and her husband Ralph, His nephews, Jean Marie, Mathieu, just to name a few. Our forever gratitude to Annette, who tirelessly took excellent care of him for eleven years. A heartfelt thank you to all the other short-term caretakers who touched his life. Your positive input in his life did not go unnoticed. Go in dignity, Nicolas. "Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him." May you rest in peace in the bosom of your creator and may the earth rest lightly upon you. You will be greatly missed.
