Patricia Duncan

Patricia A. Duncan, lovingly known as "Patty," passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 70, following a brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born on September 20, 1955, to the late Joseph and Mary Perretto, Patty built a life centered on family, education, service, and compassion. She made her home in Ronkonkoma, New York, for 39 years, where she raised her family and became a beloved member of the community. More recently, she moved to Mount Sinai to be closer to her children and grandson, a decision that brought her great joy.

Patty earned her Bachelor's degree from Marist College and her Master's degree from Long Island University. She devoted 40 years to teaching English in the Islip School District, beginning her career at Islip Middle School before moving to Islip High School. Throughout her distinguished career, she inspired generations of students with her patience, kindness, and unwavering belief in their potential. To many, she was far more than a teacher—she was a trusted mentor, role model, and friend.

Her commitment to serving others extended well beyond the classroom. For more than a decade, Patty volunteered as a director with S.Y.A.G. Baseball & Softball, dedicating countless hours to supporting and encouraging the young people in her community. A proud breast cancer survivor, she generously shared her experience, strength, and knowledge with countless women facing their own battles, offering hope, comfort, and understanding during some of life's most difficult moments.

Above all else, Patty cherished her family. She is survived by her son, Douglas Duncan; her daughter, Kaitlin Duncan; her daughter-in-law, Jessica Spetko; and her beloved grandson, Jackson, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Perretto.

Although Patty came from a small family, she often said that her lifelong friends from Islip High School were family in every sense of the word. She treasured those friendships throughout her life and was grateful for the love, laughter, and support they shared over the years.

Patty will be remembered as a devoted mother and grandmother, a gifted educator, a loyal friend, and a compassionate mentor. She possessed a rare combination of kindness, patience, and understanding that touched everyone she met. Her gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to helping others leave a lasting legacy that will continue to live on through the countless lives she influenced.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
