Paul Edward Bookman Sr. born November 19, 1943, in Valley Stream NY to Everard Bookman and Laurette Bookman (nee Prefontaine) where he grew up with his brothers John, Raymond and Kenneth and had an older sister Carol Ann that was born in December of 1939 and passed in the spring of 1942 before he was born. He attended Valley Stream Central High School where he first saw a young lady that carried her schoolbooks like a Brooklyn girl and said to himself that he had to ask her out but wanted to wait a few days so he did not seem desperate. When he asked Carol Conklin out on a date she replied "only if you take me to Brooklyn" On March 5, 1961 they went to Brooklyn on their first date and met all of her crazy friends. They were married on May 14, 1966. He enlisted in the Navy soon after and served on the USS Tidewater and USS Josephus Daniels. After his time in the Navy he became a NYC Police officer and retired from the NYPD as a Sergeant in 1995 after 26 years of service. He has 3 married children Laura and her husband John, Suzanne and her husband Paul, and Paul and his wife Christine, 9 grandchildren Danielle, Alyssa, Matthew, Michael, Christopher, Leanne, Nicholas, Nicole and Rachel., 6 great grandchildren Kelsey, Jaxson, Christian, Lucas, Madison and Carissa. He has a large extended family including his grandchildren's spouses Derek, Julianna and Alyssa that gathered often through the years as well as many friends and neighbors. He was a mentor to many and a fixture in every neighborhood that he lived in, always willing to lend a hand, crack a bad joke or give advice even if you weren't looking for it. When he wasn't spending time with family, attending Sunday mass or tinkering around his house he could usually be found at the local card store playing his lottery games. He was truly a unique individual who will be missed by all who knew him.
