Roger A. Berard Jr.

Roger A. Berard Jr. of Holbrook, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 after a battle with brain cancer.

Roger was born in Manhattan, NY, to the late Roger A. Berard Sr. and Marilyn Brooks Berard. He grew up in Massapequa, NY, where he spent his youth playing soccer and making lifelong memories.

Roger’s greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sharon A. Clarke Berard. He was the devoted father of Christopher Berard and his wife Jackie, Kerry Berger and her husband James R. Berger III, and Ryan Berard and his wife Kara Varga-Berard. He was also the incredibly proud grandfather to his four amazing granddaughters: Rylynn, Kelynn, and Aislynn Berard, and Cooper Berger. Roger treasured every moment spent watching his granddaughters play sports, perform, and thrive in all of their artistic and academic pursuits.

He is survived by his loving sisters Diana Clune, Marilyn Muller and her husband George, Karen Meritz, Michelle Burdge and her husband Stephen. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Berard and sister-in-law Irene Berard, his sister Debra Ingenito and brother-in-law Joseph Ingenito, and brother-in-law Dennis Clune.

Roger’s impact extended far beyond his immediate family. He influenced his nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, neighbors and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His personality left an impression that will continue to live on in the countless stories shared by those who loved him.

A passionate, lifelong sports enthusiast, Roger proudly cheered for the New York Yankees, the New York Jets, and was a fierce fan of University of Alabama college football—"Roll Tide!" He found immense happiness in cruising the seas, trying his luck at gambling and horse racing, and could regularly be found relaxing in his favorite recliner, remote control firmly in hand. Roger will be remembered for his unmistakable personality. He was genuine, outspoken, and never one to sugarcoat his opinions. Roger was also well known and affectionately remembered for his wonderfully particular tastes; he was a true lover of Wise Potato Chips, bacon, Chunky Bars, blueberry pie, Yankee Doodles, hot dogs, bologna sandwiches, and a cold Miller Lite. He lived life exactly how he wanted, brought laughter to those around him, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
