Rosemary Sells

Rosemary Sells, 71 years old, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY.

Rosemary was born on September 25, 1954 in Amityville, NY to the late Leonard and Carmela Costa. Rosemary graduated from Comsewogue High School in 1972, where she played field hockey and softball. She went on to study at SUNY Farmingdale as an art major, and graduated with an Associate’s Degree. Rosemary dedicated over twenty years working at Long Island Head Start and then another two decades as a security guard until 2019.

In her early life Rosemary enjoyed singing and dancing, road trips, and outdoor activities that included fishing and crabbing, and camping. She enjoyed “oldies” music and Doo-Wop; one of her favorites bands was The Platters. In her later years Rosemary enjoyed being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rosemary is survived by her husband Richard Sells, Sr. and their children, Eric Sells, Richard Sells, Jr., his wife Mara, and Antoinette Harris. Rosemary is also survived by her grandchildren Allaura Harris, Serena Robinson, Brieanna Harris, Jaleena Harris, Ezio Sells, Cole Sells and Maisie Sells. Her great-grandchildren are Jaxon Avalos, Liam Guillen-Robinson, Vincenzo Harris, and Thiago Guillen-Robinson.

Rosemary was the eleventh of twelve children of the deceased Leonard and Carmela Costa. She is survived by her siblings Antoinette Costa, Nicholas and Linda Costa, Carmine and Kathy Costa, Andrew and Nancy Costa, Robert and Darlene Costa and Debra McKew. Her pre-deceased siblings include Joseph Costa, Anna Tortorici, Carol Grundel, Leonard Costa and Norma Anselmo. Rosemary is also survived by numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In Rosemary’s final moments she was surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, sister, brother and niece.
