Rudolph "Rudy" G. Sunderman

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Rudoph "Rudy" Sunderman, who passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at the age of 80.Born on April 5, 1946, he was the beloved son of Rudolph and Katherine "Kate" Sunderman. Rudy was full of dedication and service to his community with 62 years of Service to the Mastic Volunteer Fire Department as a fire firefighter serving as Chief in 1976 and 1977. Rudolph also was serving as a Fire Commissioner for the Mastic Fire District for over 37 plus years. His additional services included Past President of the Mastic Volunteer Ambulance and was an Honorary Member. Above all else, Rudy was a devoted husband to Helen since August 29, 1982, father, grandpa, great-grandfather and friend. He shared many memories with family. He was most joyful during the holiday season when all the family would get together. Rudy will be remembered for his love for his family, his community and his passion for nice cars. He always had to drive a Ford. He had a special interest in his community always trying to advocate to make his community a better place for the local residents working with local civic groups. He was always proud to make a difference. He will be missed by his Family; he will be missed by the Fire Service and his Community. Though his absence leaves an unimaginable void, we take comfort in knowing that he leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a piece of himself in everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.May he rest in peace.
