Shirley Mae Lopez, 85, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026. Born on September 1, 1940, in Newfoundland, Canada, Shirley lived a full life devoted to her family and the simple joys that brought her happiness.

Fiercely proud of her Canadian heritage, Shirley left Newfoundland as a young woman to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She had planned to travel the United States and then return back to Canada, but fate had other plans. Her first stop was New York, where she met Nelson Lopez—and it became her last. Their love story spanned 60 beautiful years of marriage, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband Nelson; her sons Nelson A. Lopez (Kathy) and Nicholas G. Lopez; and her cherished grandchildren Nicholas A. Lopez, Jake M. Lopez, and Sarah R. Lopez.

Shirley found joy in life's simple pleasures: preparing meals with care for those she loved, getting lost in a good book, working through her daily crossword puzzle, and enjoying a glass of wine. Music filled her home (and car), especially the voices of Neil Diamond and Elvis, whose songs she would want to get up and dance to. Above all, she treasured time spent with her friends and family, creating countless memories that will be held close by those she leaves behind.
