Sneh Gupta

Sneh Gupta, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 27, 2026.

Born in undivided India and raised in the suburbs of Delhi, India, Sneh recalled a childhood filled with games, laughter, and long afternoons in the sun knitting and embroidering beside her mother. On September 21, 1958, at the age of nineteen, she married Tilak Gupta and began a new chapter as a wife and eventually mother to Rajesh and Sanjay.

In 1972, Sneh and Tilak moved their family to Flushing, Queens. Sneh took a job as an accounts clerk three weeks after arriving, while raising two young sons and running a household. Over eighteen years, she rose from clerk to Deputy Assessor in Charge for the borough of Queens, the second-highest position in the borough. She retired in 1996 to be home with Tilak after his retirement.

Sneh found joy in life's simple pleasures: crocuses in early spring, morning walks, reading a book in the garden, and the laughter of kids. She was always guided by her love of family and her Vedic faith, living each day with gratitude, patience, and kindness. She will be remembered for her strength and warmth, as well as her fierce devotion to and pride for those she loved. She encouraged those she loved to, in her own words, "have faith, deal with things as they come and be thankful for all you are blessed with."

Sneh is survived by her two sons, Rajesh (married to Sunita in 1984) and Sanjay (married to Neera in 2001); her four granddaughters, Sonia, Sabena, Reena, and Rania; her four great-grandchildren, Kash, Taj, Zoe, and Sasha; her sister Kusum; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
