Stephanie Giacalone, age 87, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on April 3, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, Stephanie lived a life defined by love, generosity, and quiet strength. She was married to her beloved husband, Peter, for more than 63 years before his passing just three months ago.
The two of them were inseparable, building a life full of family, Sunday dinners, and deep devotion.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nanette (Giacalone) Wallace and her husband, Tom, and Joanne (Giacalone) Rogers, in addition to her two younger siblings, Vito Sutera and his wife, Janice, and Joanne (Sutera) DiLeonardo and her husband, Phil.
She also leaves behind her eight grandchildren: Jamie, Nick (Taylor), Chris (Gabriella), Chelsea, Matthew, Lexi, Sammie, and Tyler, who were the light of her life. She was endlessly proud of each one of them and loved nothing more than hearing about their lives, celebrating their achievements, or slipping them a few extra dollars “just because.”
Stephanie spent her professional life working as a banker at Teachers Federal Credit Union. At home, she ran the Giacalone household finances with precision, handling every bill, receipt, and bank statement like a true CFO. She was still attempting to balance her checkbook, by hand, right up until the very end.
She was selfless, always doing for others and never asking for anything in return. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was famous for her chicken noodle soup.
In the final few years of her life, she and Peter (with their caretaker Claudia) found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially Sunday nights, when they got to eat their favorite Wendy’s 4 for $4 combo meal while watching America’s Got Talent.
Stephanie was the quiet, steady center of our family, never seeking attention, but always holding everything together. Her love and her chicken noodle soup will be missed more than words can say.
