Theresa Haas, devoted mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, died on May 29, 2026. Terry, as she was more commonly called, lived a life of love. She found joy in her family and in her many interests.
Born in Brooklyn in 1942, Terry grew up in a large Italian family. She was trained as a professional secretary and worked at MetLife in Manhattan until marrying Al Haas in 1963 and starting their family in Glendale, Queens. In 1968, they moved to a beautiful house in Hauppauge, where their home became a gathering place for Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve celebrations.
Terry loved growing tomatoes, herbs, and roses in the large backyard, or sitting on the deck and reading. She and Al loved to travel and to go antiquing. For more than 20 years, they had weekly dinners at Branchinelli’s. Terry adored watching movies—classic or ridiculous—and was renowned for baking a huge variety of Christmas cookies every year.
The greatest joys in Terry’s life came from being with her family. She terribly missed her husband, Al, who died about nine months ago. She is survived by her children: Theresa (and her husband, Ed); Susan (and her husband, Chris); and her beloved son, Michael. She delighted in her grandsons—Matthew, Kyle, Michael, and Andrew—and adored her great‑grandchildren, Alison, Benjamin, and Emerson. She is also survived by her brother, Steve, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alfonso and Madaline, and her siblings, Pete, Angelo, Andrew, and Rose.
She leaves behind the legacy of a loving family, and her memory will live on in all those who adored her.
In her memory, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
