Born on a U.S. Army Air Force base in Savannah, Georgia, and raised in Flushing, New York, Tom played football at Holy Cross High School, earning a scholarship to John Carroll University. He later settled in Suffolk County with his beloved wife, Marybeth, who passed away in 1980.
Tom raised his three children—Beth, Tom, and Cindy—as a single parent while working full-time as an engineer for the Long Island Rail Road, and always found time to play catch, attend band recitals, and fill their summers with days on the boat. A life filled with love and adventure, Tom spent the past 40 years with his devoted partner, Joan Martorana. Together, they traveled the world—from decades of beach summers with children and grandchildren, to tracing family roots in Ireland, to their beloved Jamaica, where they built a joyful community and lasting friendships.
Tom is survived by his partner, Joan; his children: Beth and her husband, Rich; Tom and his partner, Jeanne; and Cindy. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Mary Hope, Jack, Tyler, Trevor, and Tommy; his sister, Joanne, and her husband, Joe; and their daughters, Elizabeth and Laura, Joan's four daughters and husbands, nine grandchildren, her sister, brother and his wife, and her large extended family.
Tom will be remembered for his keen intellect, wry wit, trademark smirk, and generous spirit. His family will forever hold their Pop Pop in their hearts. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
