Thomas W. Winter

d. September 22, 2023

Thomas William Winter,74, passed away on September 22, 2023.

He was born on August 29, 1949 to Robert and Ruth Winter in Queens,NY. After graduating high school he did attend some college but ended up working for European American Bank where he worked all of his career. Which is where he met his wife, Nancy. They were married in 1972 and had two children, Thomas and Kathleen.

Tom’s favorite activities included golf, bowling, and attending Islanders and Yankees games. He was a season ticket holder for the Islanders for just about 30 years. If you’ve ever attended a game with Tom you knew his voice could carry down to the ice level in yelling at the referees (or a player who did something stupid). He loved having Super Bowl and Wrestlemania parties. If his favorite team happened to be in the finals and winning, he would make you stay in your seat till the end of the game. And if you were lucky, you would win money in his football pools.

Another favorite activity was planning the annual EAB fishing trip. The group would go out of Freeport and fish for fluke or flounder. Even if you didn’t catch anything or one of the ugly sea robins, it was always such a good time with plenty of laughs. Just remember to tie your hat to your pants!

He was known for his love of pranks and jokes. He would show up to someone’s wedding wearing some silly attire, like a clown’s nose, bowtie and wig. Or elephant ears and trunk. You just never knew what he would show up in. Laughter was never lacking when you were around Tom.

He loved his family and friends and would be the first to offer help, if it was needed. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Tom, daughter Kathleen, son in law Jason, sisters Louise and Joan, brother in law John, nieces Kerri and Meghan and numerous cousins.

If you plan to attend the wake please wear your favorite sports team shirt/jersey. This is what dad would like.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to the March of Dimes or St. Jude.
