Veronica Ficalora, 89 of New Smyrna Beach, Fl passed away peacefully on May 4, 2026 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on November 22, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Vincenza Barbera. Veronica grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from New Utrecht High School. She worked at Merrill-Lynch after graduating.
On September 4,1955 she married Carmelo Ficalora. Together, they lived in Bethpage, New York, raised four children, and shared 62 years of marriage. Veronica was known for her kindness, caring heart, and her humor. She worked at BOCES as a bookkeeper for over 15 years. After retiring, she cherished the time with her husband, Carmelo, traveling and being snowbirds in Florida.
Veronica was a woman with many passions. She was an accomplished accordionist, music teacher and who preformed at Carnegie Hall. She treasured having her family together, especially her grandchildren, during the holidays and cooking her famous Italian meals and desserts. Veronica found great joy in tending to her flowers and watching them grow into beautiful displays. She was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She was an avid mahjong player for over 60 years, later teaching many neighbors the game she loved.
She is survived by her children, Joseph Ficalora(Carolyn), Steven Ficalora(Lynne), Gina Mullen, Karyn Leonardi (Tony); her eight grandchildren Anne Chekenian, Justin Codes, Danielle Harrigan, Katherine Ficalora, Alyssa O’Neill, Austin Ficalora, Mark Ficalora and Belle Leonardi ; her sister, Nancy Reilly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carmelo Ficalora, and son-in-law JC Mullen.
