Daniel F. Schmidt, 82 of Bellport, NY, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019. Born March 26, 1937 in Manhattan, NY, he was the beloved son of the late Frank and Mary Leba Schmidt. A hard working man who always put family first, Dan was a loyal, devoted, tender, loving, chivalrous, funny, warm and most of all, good, kind man. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and lifelong Met fan. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Nita (Erss) in 2003. He will be greatly missed by his children, Debbie Barkley (Bob), Frank, Donna Gainsford (Charles) and Danny (Matt de Menezes). Also by his grandchildren, Matt Barkley (fiance, April), Zachary Barkley (Amy), Keith Gainsford and Jennifer Gainsford; his brothers, Frank (Joanne) and Jim (Rose); his nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his family of loving, compassionate neighbors and friends. As cheerleader of the BSC Thursday bowling league he will also be greatly missed.
