Howard “Howie” Barush passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the age of 78 in Manorville, NY with his family by his side. His battle with cancer showed his tremendous courage and strength.
Howard met the love of his life, Barbara, during high school when he offered her and her friend a ride home from school one day. When they explained that they only had to walk to the next house, Howie said he would take the long way home. They were married for 57 years. He was an amazing father, coach, teacher and mentor to his children who both went on to graduate from the United States Military Academy.Howard became a police officer in 1966 and retired from the Nassau County Police Department as a Lieutenant after 21 years of service. He loved competitive marksmanship, golf, billiards, bowling, chess, and fishing. He won multiple Police Olympics, Empire State Games and set several National Records in rifle shooting. He also enjoyed tutoring high school kids for the Scholastic Aptitude test.
Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children, Rhonda and Robert, and four grandchildren, Jennifer, Grant, Jacob, and Ava.
