Janet M. Kelley

d. May 15, 2020

Janet Marion Mackin Kelley, RN, age 88, of Riverhead, formerly of Hicksville, NY, beloved Mother, Grammy and Great Grammy, passed away on May 15, 2020 to be with our Lord. Her beloved husband, Anthony L. Kelley, Jr. predeceased her 22 years before.

Janet was born on April 20, 1932 in Jamaica, NY where she raised by her parents, Daniel and Margaret Mackin together with her younger brother Robert before they moved to Garden City. Janet attended Marymount High School in Tarrytown, NY and went on to nursing school at St. John’s College in Queens, NY. She received her RN degree and worked for a short time at Nassau Hospital. Years later, she worked at the Long Island Blood Services as a phlebotomist for 15 years taking blood from donors all over Long Island.

She met her husband, Mr. Kelley as she affectionally called him, in 1955 and they were married on May 11, 1957. Together they are survived by 6 children and their families: Jennifer; Daniel & JoAnne (Cronin); Maureen & Vincent (Conlon); Catherine & John (Saathoff); Eileen; and Rosemary. They had 4 grandchildren that loved their Grammy: Eileen Conlon (Nick Anderson), Joseph Kelley, and brothers Andrew and Augustine Casal. Recently, Janet became a Great Grammy to “her baby” Samantha Anderson who she loved to receive pictures of.

Janet loved being the matriarch of the family. She loved that her 5 daughters marched in St. Ignatius All Girls Drum and Bugle Corps from Hicksville and that at one point she was a chaperone for them. She was a die-hard Mets fan, loved to garden, read, needlepoint, and travel. And she especially loved the family get togethers.

The Kelley Family would like to thank the staff of Unit 1 at the Westhampton Care Center for taking great care of their mother. Special thanks to Kelly, Jessica, Isabelle, Shelly, Nicole RN, Tiffany, Lisa and Carol for making sure Janet was OK.

Interment at Holy Rood Cemetery. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society.
